K. J. Yesudas (Malayalam: കാട്ടശ്ശേരി ജോസഫ് യേശുദാസ്), is a multilingual singer who sings in Sanskrit, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Tulu, Oriya, Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Panjabi, Bengali, Arabic, Latin, Russian and English languages, born January 10, 1940 in India. He mainly Concentrates on Indian Classical Music and also a notable Playback singer in Indian film Industry.

At Udupi in early 2002


Gaana Gandharva Padmabhooshana Dr. K. J. Yesudas performed in the presence of His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Vishveshatheertha Swamiji of Pejavara Sri Krishna Math, Udupi in early 2002. Prov. V. 

Praveen on Mridangam, Mahadeva Sharma on Violin and T. Radhakrishna on Ghatam accompany him. He sang several Kannada compositions of Purandaradasa - The saint-poet who is revered as the father of Carnatic Music.

The major keerthans are Gajavadana beduve, Jagadoddharana, Tirupati Venkataramana, Kotta bhagyave saako, Nalidaade enna naalige mele, Srinivasa ennabittu, Guruvina gulama and Krishna Nee Begane Baaro.

Sagar Music, based in Bangalore, has released three albums compiled from this live concert are Krishna Nee Begane Baaro, Kalyani, which features a ragam-tanam-pallavi in that raga, and Swagatham Krishna, which features bhajans and shlokas.



At Saginaw Valley State University in July 2009


  • The Concert was to celebrate the achievements of the Mid Michigan Physicians of Indian Origin (MMAPI) and Indian Association of East Central Michigan (IAECM).
  • The music concert started at 7:30 pm. Hundreds of people watched the program.


At Girinagar Park in March 2006


The Concert was to celebrate the 75th birthday of H. H. Swamijee of Pejawar Mutt.
The music concert started at 9 pm. Thousands of people watched the program. He started the concert with a Devaranama, Gurivina Gulamanaguva Thanaka Doreyadanna Mukuthi of Purandara Dasaru, which gave a bright start to the concert. The joy of the crowd further enhanced when he chose another Haridasa pada on Udupi Sri Krishna, which stood out for his delicate vocalism. He opted Shankarabharana for a detailed airing. The facile manner in which he scaled the Taara Panchama highlighted the delineation, aesthetic twists and graceful birkas, bringing out the evocative imagery of the melody. Yesudas rose to the occasion and rendered a number of devotionals with feeling.



Jyothi 2020, Lombard, IL on August 28, 2004


Jyothi 2020, a light music concert by Padmabushan K. J. Yesudas, was one of the highlights of the Chicago's Indian cultural scene conducted by Sankara Eye Foundation and Chicago Tamil Sangam on Saturday, August 28, 2004.

Gaanagandharva was accompanied by local talents Sindhu and Anitha for the female voices and a host of Instrumentalists who came from different corners of the US. He started the program in the traditional Indian style with a prayer to Ganesha (Maha Ganapathim from the movie Sindhu Bhairavi). Soon to follow were his masterpieces like Adhisaya Raagam and Vizhiye Kadhai Ezhuthu. Especially the latter one was very appropriate for the occasion with the lines Deepam Eriginradhu!!! Jyothi Theriginradhu that means The lamp is burning!!! The vision is alive!!! . To satisfy both the Tamil and the Malayalam speaking audience, he interspersed Tamil and Malayalam.



Music For Peace in Paris in November, 1999


Music for Peace, a concert to mark the dawn of the new millennium On November 14, 1999, at Paris.

The synergy created by Yesudas and Junoon, aimed at peace, was an inspiration to all those present, which included renowned artists like Lionel Richie, Ray Charles, Montserrat Caballé, and Zubin Mehta conducting the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. The famous actors Gregory Peck, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, and Peter Ustinov were the masters of ceremony. Dignitaries from around the world, including the heads of the European Union and the ambassadors from 170 countries attended this global event.

He performed the title song of the album Ahimsa which has collection of truly multilingual with English, Latin, and Sanskrit. And was bestowed with the Music For Peace Award.



Tharangam Music Festival 2002


Tharangam Music Festival 2002, Pujyasri Narayana Tirtha's 327th Jayanthi was celebrated for three days at the Narada Gana Sabha. On the penultimate day of the festival at the end of his concert K. J. Yesudas was conferred the title, "Bhakti Sangita Geetha Sironmani" jointly by the Thirupoonthuruthy Sri Narayana Tirtha wamigal Trust, Narada Gana Sabha Trust and Saraswathi Vaggeyakara Trust.

Yesudas might have made some changes in the ragas also for the tharangams. Keerthanas in the programme was Jaya Jaya Swamin, Krishna Krishna Krupasamudra, Govardhanagiridara, Saranam Bhava Karunamayi, Gurudeena Dayalo, Jaya Jaya Ramanatha, Govindaghataya, Pahi Pahi Jaganmohana Krishna, Paramananda Sri Krishna and Mangalani Thanothu Madhusudhana.

Delhi P. Sundarrajan (violin), Vellore Ramabhadran (mridangam) and Vaikom Gopalakrishnan (ghatam) played their roles perfectly.



Sruti 2005-2006, Philadelphia


Sruti, The India Music and Dance Society will present Masters in Carnatic Music, a performance series involving outstanding musicians of India. Vocal concert by K.J. Yesudas presents compositions by Purandaradasa, Annamacharya, Thyagaraja, Dikshitar and Syama Sastri, along with improvisations in the raga and tala aspects of Carnatic music.



The Yesudas's Gurusmarana Tour 2005 (USA)


Gurusmarana 2005 Carnatic Music Concert by Dr. K. J. Yesudas in various cities dedicated to his teacher Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar. It included A Classical & Semi Classical Concert in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit and Malayalam languages.

Classical Music Concert, MIT, Cambridge


It was a Classical Music Concert presented by Asha for Education Boston on Sunday, May 14, 2000, 5 pm at Kresge Auditorium, MIT, Cambridge. Asha for Education is a secular organization dedicated to change in India by focusing on basic education in the belief that education is a critical requisite for socio-economic change.

Symphony Entertainers presented Concert with Dr. K. J. Yesudas, Ms Sujatha Mohan, Vijay Yeusdas and Mahathi on 1 October at Concert Hall.


Concert at Flushing, New York in 1998


Concert was conducted for helping the disabled children and the poor. This was a special event at the Hindu Temple in Flushing on November 14, 1998. The President of the organization told India in New York that a record fund was collected in a three-hour concert.


Concert at Cologne, Europe Tour in 2003


Yesudas given a special live concert in Cologne, Germany during his Europe tour 2003.
The German-Indian culture club in Cologne organised this event, Concert by Yesudas on the 15th November 2003, 6 PM. The concert took place in the Schulzentrum Ostheim, Hardgenbuscher Kirchweg 100 in Köln-Ostheim.


Classical and Devotional Concert, Singapore in 2005


Both Classical and devotional were included in the concert by Yesudas, Sun, Mar 20 at 7:00 p.m at Victoria Concert Hall, Empress Place. and the Program organised by Arulmigu Velmurugan Gnanamuneeswarar Temple presented the In aid of development of Pre-School at the temple in Sengkang.


K. J. Yesudas Mega light concert in Seattle, Washington 2009


Yesudas was to perform a special live concert on June 20, 2009. It was to be sponsored by the HTCC phase II fundraiser program. The concert was to be held on June 20, 2009 [7:00 pm] at Kane Hall in University of Washington. A mix of Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi songs was to be performed by Yesudas. He was also to sing with one of the rising singing stars in America, Sabita Yesudas.
